A full class of students spent the first part of Saturday drawing each of the letters in the style of Medieval Versals. The richness of these historic letterforms provided the blank canvases to which we applied numerous illuminating techniques. Every minute until the end of Sunday was filled with learning and sketching white vine work, English penwork, figures and more. With a professor who is world renown for his research, classes and tours, (as our teacher), everyone was fully entertained with stories and trivia about countless topics related to Medieval topics.
SDFC is pleased to welcome new members Rose Smutko, Jennifer Colbert and Miranda Toledo, who initiated their membership by attending this workshop. Their work was beautiful and drawings were thoughtful, as were those by other workshop attendees. It was a pleasure to see how many participants brought in homework on Sunday. Mark van Stone's words and work were inspiring. He expressed gratitude to have the opportunity to teach a topic that he is passionate about. At the end of the day, the group was grateful too.
