HISTORICAL COPTIC BOOK
Saturday, October 15, 2005

The link stitch is an historical, attractive means of book binding that is seen in the Coptic books sewn and written by monks, as well as in the Victorian wall samplers. In this workshop we employed the link stitch to construct a modified Coptic bound book that was complemented by historically sewn end-bands. We also looked at possible decoration techniques.

Our finished books can contain calligraphy, sketches, journaling, or photos. We were shown how to adapt the finished class example to our individual requirements. No special equipment was needed to make our own copies later.

On the right are Edna’s examples, below is the wood covered books we made in class.
