Saturday, June 7, 2008 2-5 p.m.
Instead of our usual monthly Friday evening meeting, SDFC celebrated its 30th anniversary on a Saturday afternoon. Our Board members really outdid themselves. Starting at a popular membership renewal table manned by Kathy Gilchrist, members and guests moved through various stations highlighing the best of our organization. There was Beverly Frank at the Library, Ginger Johnson at Jewelry, and Lorraine Brown guiding the demos and tools donated by John Neal. Historian Phyllis Miller displayed an array of well-put together albums filled with photos and memorabilia of SDFC’s first 30 years. Party Hospitality Ch air Sue Mann brought refreshments: cheesecake, drinks, and fruit.
The workshops program for next year organized by Yvonne Perez-Collins dashed any doubts that our 31st year would be better than ever. Added to the surprises, all new and renewing members received free tickets to the Claude Mediavilla lecture in September. Additional tickets can be purchased for $10 each from Yvonne. Seating is limited to 95.
Ballots were counted, retiring board members Risa Gettler,Ginger Johnson, and Kathleen Morgan were thanked, and new Vice President Kati Searcy was installed. Britta Brice was ”people’s choice” for most calligraphically dressed, and raffle items were won. The raffle for the awesome Sheila Waters Roundel, donated by Edna Wright, was begun, to be completed at the September General Meeting, as was the silent auction for this year’s instructors’ exemplars.
A lovely assortment of paper was given out, and new and renewing members received a 30th anniversary tote bag. To top the gifts, Treasurer Jeanen Monteleone announced that everyone who joined or renewed before the end of the year was actually getting a membership good for two years. What a thoughtful and welcome gift from SDFC to its members!
The entire event was well-organized, well attended, and well enjoyed.
