Mostly Modern European Lettering & 20th Century Ghosts, Guest Lecturer, Carl Rohrs
Carl Rohrs presented a fascinating, informative slide show of what he feels are the most original and powerful writing from the nooks and crannies of the twentieth century.
Tools and techniques can be used to interpret and steal from gentlemen of mid-century lettering renown -- Ray DaBoll, Walter Brudi, Rudolf Koch, Alfred Linz, Oldrich Menhart, Herbert Post, Helmut Salden, George Salter, Ernst Schneidler, Villu Toots, Georg Trump and others. Most were type designers, most were teachers, all of them were calligraphers of startling originality. These men came up with new ways of using hands centuries-old as well as their own completely original styles which have been hiding from you for 50 years and more -- some that retain the marvelous feeling of their time and some that look as fresh as today.
