A good number of us gathered together for a well-organized presentation. Doug showed slides of some of his latest work, all with an emphasis on having fun with calligraphy. They were far more beautiful than “just painting a background and slapping some calligraphy on it,” and his use of tools such as gel pens showcased the versatility of non-standard art supplies.
Doug brought some of his most recommended calligraphy reference books, as well as “can’t live without” tools and materials. Although he keeps telling us, “You can never have enough art supplies,” Doug’s list was really well thought out and contained many of the things we’ve already collected--with a few new, must be purchased items, of course. His handouts are most appreciated.
After a few tantalizing slides of Ghost Ranch, we browsed through the books, handled the supplies, then said good by until next month..
