Envelopes Galore
with Sylver Kinsella

Sylver Kinsella and Ronna Rogers

Our guest presenter, a longtime member of SDFC and a gifted teacher of calligraphy at Escondido Adult School and Oasis, shared more than a dozen interesting ways to address envelopes. The emphasis was on bringing pleasure to mail recipients by creating beautiful envelopes using readily available materials and little time. Among the suggestions were: gluing strips of colored tissue paper and writing between the strips, inserting thin cardboard shapes in the envelope and making rubbings, stacking the person’s name in outlined Neuland letters and filling them in colorfully, using a blow pen to create a dotted pattern (such as a heart) over which one writes the address, using small ink pads to create boxes for either letters or the zip code, and many more. A great deal of amusement was had from Sylver’s collection of inspired, unusually shaped “postcards”.

We each drew the address of a person at the meeting, and we’re all awaiting the arrival of personally decorated envelopes.

We also enjoyed browsing through the collections of envelopes various members brought to share.

Thanks go to Ronna Rogers for arranging for tonight’s presentation and to Janice Shigehara for organizing the refreshments for the meeting.
