November 2004 Meeting

Friday, November 12, 2004
7 p.m.

BEYOND MEDIOCRITY or spraying for the "OWHATTHEHECK" bug"
Douglas Boyd, Guest Lecturer

“In this world where we so often have to inoculate ourselves against indifference, lower standards and, yes, mediocrity, we as lettering artists must not only be on the defense but also go on the offense when it comes to understanding, performing, perfecting, and preserving our loved skill. This presentation will help make you more aware of destructive pitfalls, arm you for properly fighting back and taking action, and set you up to reap a new level of success, satisfaction, and reward.....if you WANT to.  Now who wouldn't want to beat a path through fire ants to hear this dog and pony/insect show.....woweeee.....”--Doug Boyd

This definitely was an enlightening and entertaining evening. Douglas Boyd has been on his calligraphic journey since 1988. He has studied with most of the “who’s who in calligraphy” and has been an instructor in the San Diego area for the past 13 years. He has become an internationally recognized instructor. Doug’s works have been often exhibited and they’ve been published in six editions of the Calligrapher’s Engagement Calendar, the 23rd edition of the Speedball Textbook, Letter Arts Review, Somerset Studio, and Expression magazine, as well as in numerous calligraphic journals. For the past 16 years, he has also owned and operated Douglas Boyd Services, a graphic design business serving the San Diego area. Doug is teaching The Calligraphic Sketchbook, a workshop on November 13 and November 20.
