After a stimulating introduction to the subject and a demonstration of the necessary materials, the class began in the traditional way with the "three friends" of the winter: Plum Blossom, Bamboo and Pine. An exercise in painting a plum blossom is illustrated in detail was followed by the art of applying a final wash. An addition to the final work was to add a colophon with brush calligraphy, artist's seal, and signature.
