This class was just bursting with possibilities! Participants used a wide variety of paper, fabric, rubber stamps--to name only a few. Adding some simple techniques, such a s embossing, folding, weaving, stitching, and a photo transfer, and you have the means to create unique and exciting compositions for a multitude of uses.
Mary Lawler is a graduate of The New England School of Art and Design, Boston. Her paintings and lettering merge color, form, calligraphy and function with a palette of earth, sky and nature creating a balance of order and beauty. For 25 years, Lawler has successfully combined her knowledge and love of contemporary and traditional hand lettered forms with her skill as a graphic designer for non-traditional books, commercial applications, broadsides, decorative arts and commissions.
Lawler's work has been exhibited widely in the Northeast. In addition to her painting and lettering, Lawler has been a graphic designer, media buyer and creative associate for an advertising agency in Springfield, MA. She currently teaches Mixed media Collage and Lettering Arts at the Guild Studio School, Northampton and conducts workshops throughout the U.S
