Calls for Entry

	As a service to our members, we list information on each “call for entry” as we receive it. SDFC encourages all members to exhibit calligraphic work whenever the opportunity arises, especially since many are open to all levels of expertise. It is our hope that active participation in community events by our members will increasingly educate the general public to recognize and appreciate calligraphy as an art form. Note: Check thoroughly before entering anything. Listings here are a courtesy to members, not an endorsement of any organization.

	Poway Women’s Club’s annual art exhibit, “Celebrate Women”. It will be held this year from March 1-24, 2012, at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts (next to Poway High). Two pieces per person may be turned in on Wednesday, February29th between 9 and 11 a.m. and should not be work previously displayed at this venue. Read the hanging instructions carefully and get the registration form to Joye Davisson by February 20th if you want to be included in the catalogue. This is not a student exhibit, all work should be original. And no, you don’t have to be a woman to participate in the exhibit, you just have to “celebrate” them. 	The 2012 Graceful Envelope Contest, conducted by the Washington (DC) Calligraphers Guild under the sponsorship of the National Association of Letter Carriers. The contest is open to all ages, with two separate categories for children. There is no entry fee. This year's theme, "D-liver D-letter D-sooner D-better," was inspired by the nation's letter carriers, who D-liver 170 billion pieces of mail each year. With that letter in mind, your challenge is to create a Graceful Envelope around anything that begins with D. The postmark deadline is Monday, April 30, 2012.
